Parkrose Hardware

This isn't your typical hardware store. The fasteners selection is superb! As an automotive hobbyist I tinker on American, Japanese, English, and Italian cars. Some of the work has been "custom", and whether it be a nut, bolt, rod end, metric or SAE they always had what I needed, or I'm sure could get if needed (but they never had too). And yes, they stock materials that can be cut on site if desired. I could go on, but see it for yourself.

For the basics, this place is great. Everything from gardening to painting, to some light cookware. Of course they don't have everything, but besides lumber, there they've had everything I've needed. Fair prices and the rewards add up. Would Definitely recommend this place. Very friendly service and fairly straightforward return policy.

I dropped by after my visit to the VA Clinic to suss the store out. I parked near the parking lot plant cage to peruse the plants and prices. Several plants caught my immediate attention, so I began taking pictures to remind me of what I discovered. Out of the corner of my eye, I observed an older guy walking towards me, asking me questions about the plants. He made mention of the fact that I was picture taking, which I affirmed. Nonplussed, I continued to take a couple more shots while my new companion kept pestering me. I politely said I liked what I saw and didn't want to forget about the plants. Noticeably, he finished every sentence with, eh. Aw, I thought he's Canadian. Okay. No biggie. It was his stating to me to get the hell out of there, no just kidding, that was so offensive. Turns out he's an employee. An ill-mannered one at that so easily dismissed. Plant prices are outrageous. But, not out of keeping with the competition. The store itself is enormous. It is modeled after the Coastal retail chain. The interior is well organized but sterile in the same way I find Wilco stores. The price point on everything I checked was high. But, the availability of items you'd never find in the box stores is inspiring. The fastener section alone dwarfs that found at A Boys. Massive selection, but very high pricing. Less than ten customers and a floor staff, each with black ear pieces, made it obvious that Parkrose Hardware takes its loss prevention seriously. I found a plant elixir for less than Amazon Prime and bought it. At the counter, I inquired as to a senior (Tuesday only) or veteran (everyday) discount and was happy to learn the store offered both. Knowing that at Parkrose, I'll find a hard to find part, tool, or plant, which means I'll be back. As for Canadian leprechaun that greeted me, eh. Huge selection of stuff, especially the nuts, bolts and fasteners. That said, the majority of their selection is SAE. They have a rather small selection of metric and an even smaller selection of metric stainless. Ace in West Linn, Lake Oswego and (especially) Cascade (Oak Grove) have a far larger selection of metric. Especially Cascade, who also has a huge selection of metric stainless, chrome, black chrome, polished and grade 10.9. Parkrose had a decent selection of metric 10.9 and higher but that it. As for other products, they carry a huge variety of products. Prices on the products and the fasteners is generally higher than I've seen at the competition, so keep that in mind. Also, it wasn't super easy to find employees to help. Last time I was there I was looking for a specific length and thread pitch bolt type in metric. I preferred stainless but they were out, so I tried to find this selection and non-stainless. I wasn't able to find it, and I couldn't find an employee for the life of me to help me look for it. In the end, a couple customers helped me look and none of us could find it either. So I just went to Ace, where an employer with more than happy to help me find the fasteners I needed. Sure, they have a large selection of products but it doesn't mean much if you can't find employee help when you need it, also doesn't help that the prices are on the high end. I'd shop here again if it was the only place that had something I needed, but if I could find it at Ace, Lowe's, Home Depot or online I'd probably just go there next time. It would cost me less and honestly save me time. I spent WAY too long in here trying to find what I needed with zero help available. Not sure I'll be back. Home Depot two exits down the freeway and Ace is nearby, so I'll probably go to those two instead when possible.
